Kate's New Place: Before Photos

Like so many people during this crazy time, I have found myself constantly reevaluating nearly every aspect of my life recently. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share the news that I’m moving into a new place this month! As you can see from the pics in this post, we are currently living in a sea of cardboard boxes.

Today I’m sharing a few initial before photos of our new home, but soon I’ll be writing a much more in-depth post about all my best moving tips (plus the many mistakes we made!) so stay tuned for more coming soon.

Clearly you’ll notice that Nola, our rescue pup, is already making herself at home here. To be totally honest she’s pretty confused about the whole process given that we’ve only had her for about three months, but it’s been fun to introduce her to her new neighborhood and let her explore a little!

Decor Dos and Don'ts From My Past 5 Apartments

While purging a bunch of stuff from my home office last week, I came across a bunch of old hard drives with all my photos from the past decade. After diving in and wasting an entire afternoon down memory lane, I thought it might be fun to compile all the photos from all my apartments over the past 10 years to see how my style has evolved.

Once I had a chance to look through all of the ways I’ve decorated my home over the years I wanted to share a post about all the design and decor dos and don’ts that these places have taught me! I’ve definitely learned a lot along the way, but going through all of these photos makes me excited to see how my style will continue to develop and change in the future.

Anyone Else Confused About Work From Home Outfits?

Most of the time on the blog, we try to share as much valuable advice as we can in our content. Today’s post is a little different though. Kate here, and today I’m the one who is humbly seeking advice - about my current work-from-home wardrobe dilemma.

This year has thrown a lot of things out of balance to say the least, and I’ll start this post off by emphasizing that this ‘dilemma’ is pretty much the definition of a first world problem. By no means is this a big deal or some earth-shattering issue whatsoever, but it is something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the past four months that’s started to reframe my thoughts and feelings about one of my favorite subjects - fashion - and so I felt compelled to write about it in case anyone else is feeling utterly confused about what the hell to wear when working from home.

Healthy Baked Buffalo Cauliflower Wings

Being a midwestern girl at heart, I will never not have a weakness for any and everything buffalo. Growing up in Ohio, buffalo wings are kind of a major food group (or so it seems to me), and they are without a doubt both me and my husband Brett’s favorite guilty pleasure indulgence.

I’ve been wanting to come up with a go-to recipe for a healthy take on fried chicken wings that would still hit the spot when we’re both craving comfort food forever, and I think I’ve finally nailed it. Today I’m super excited to share my recipe for Healthy Baked Buffalo Cauliflower Wings with you!

I’ve made these a lot lately and they are honestly SO. GOOD. They definitely don’t disappoint in the way that some healthy takes I’ve tried in the past tend to.

Room Tour: Kate's Studio Home Office

Although I work mostly from home under ‘normal’ circumstances, like a lot of us, the current climate of the times has me spending 100% of my working hours at home. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share another room tour wth you - my studio and home office!

As a multi-faceted creative, having my own space to work on the many different projects that come with my job is totally essential. I haven’t always had my own designated room for work and music recording, so it’s been a game changer in this house to have this space.

10 Black-Owned Businesses To Shop and Follow

Last week, we took some time to pause sharing our regular content in order to listen, learn, and hold space for the voices that need to be amplified right now.

While we’re encouraged and inspired to see the way many have come together in our country this past week to fight for racial justice, we also know that the fight against systemic racism is by no means a one-week social media event and that there remains an immense amount of work to do.

We are committed to doing the work, to learning what it truly means to be actively anti-racist, and to amplifying the voices of black creators, artists, and dreamers in as many ways as we can.

Anti-Racism Resource and Reading List

We usually share new blog posts every Tuesday, but given the recent horrific events that have occurred in America (and honestly, have been occurring for far too long), we want to take a backseat on sharing original content this week and simply publish this list of anti-racism resources today.

We The Dreamers is a company and blog operated by two white women, and we are fully committed to doing a better job of amplifying the voices of the black community and taking vocal, anti-racist action. Sadly, the violence and systemic racism that black people experience in this country is far from new, and honestly, we should have shared resources like this and spoken more openly about anti-racism a long time ago. This list is only a very small start, but we wanted to share these resources in case they can be of any help to fellow white people looking for a place to begin.

Confessions of a Control Freak (Plus Preview Kate's New Song!)

At the time of writing this blog, the world is in the midst of the now infamous Corona pandemic - and there’s really not enough space on the internet to list all of the adjectives we could use to describe this crazy season. It’s scary. It’s weird. It’s bizarre. It’s confusing. It’s …. anxiety-inducing, to say the least.

Today I’m unpacking and sharing a little bit about why I’m confessing to control freak-dom, and I’m also super excited to share a snippet of my upcoming single, “Anxious” - which is all about the struggle of feeling out of control in life.

Advice For Covid-19 Brides

It’s no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we live, work, travel, consume, and plan. How are we supposed to plan for the future when no one really knows how and when this will end?

Courtney here — as a bride who is currently dealing with wedding planning during COVID-19, I wanted to write something especially for other to-be Mrs. so we can all find a little comfort and solidarity during this time.

I think we could all use some comforting words and maybe a vent sesh or seven. Here are some things that have helped me throughout the past few months as I’ve nervously watched and waited.

Meet Nola: Kate's New Rescue Pup

Despite all of the crazy uncertainty of this season, this week unexpectedly turned out to be one of the best ever. Why? Because my husband Brett and I finally found the rescue pup of our dreams!

Meet Nola - she is a Wheaten Terrier mix and a total sweetheart. We picked her up in San Diego this weekend and we are absolutely in love!

We’ve been excited about getting our first dog together since we met almost 11 years ago, and now finally felt like the right time to start looking.

Room Tour: Kate's Main Bedroom

Since we’re all spending a significant amount of time on the home front lately, I thought I’d start sharing some much requested room tours from my LA home. Kate here, and I’m excited to share our master bedroom with you guys today!

My husband Brett and I have lived in a ton of different apartments and parts of the city over the years (in addition to spending a few years in Nashville and one in Paris), and I have to say that this is the first house we’ve ever lived in that has all the elements of what feels like a ‘grown up’ master bedroom.

It has tons of natural light, enough room for a king bed (which has never even come close to happening before), hardwood floors, and tons of original charm. I absolutely love it!

Why It's OK Not To Be OK

With everything going on right now (and let’s be honest, also everything NOT going on right now) it can be really easy for us to feel disoriented, confused, and generally a lot more emotional than usual. Kate here, and I can confirm I’m definitely among that group.

I wanted to write this post today to encourage anyone else who’s feeling worn down by this whole season, because I think it’s incredibly crucial for us to know now more than ever that we’re not alone in our feelings.

I recently wrote about how to deal when you feel powerless, and today I wanna write about how feeling powerless is not only normal, but it’s totally OK. Simply put, it’s OK not to be OK.

Photo Diary: Alt Summit 2020

If you’ve been following us on social media, you’ve probably seen a bunch of dreamy desert scenes pop up in your feed this past week. That’s because I (Kate) have spent the past 6 days running around sunny Palm Springs, CA speaking at an extremely cool conference for creative women entrepreneurs called Altitude Summit - and I haven’t been able to stop taking pictures of literally everything.

If you’ve never heard of Altitude Summit, or ‘Alt’ Summit for short, you’re not alone. I didn’t know what it was until about six months ago, but I’m definitely glad I do now. It’s basically a super inspiring coming together of artists, entrepreneurs, writers, speakers, and creators of all kinds - and it’s full of nothing but dreamers!

Today I wanna share a little photo diary of some of the highlights of my week at Alt, and a few powerful takeaways I left with.

Courtney's Engagement Story: From Hinge To Hitched

Hey, guys — Courtney here! Today I’m writing about me and my fiancé, Lee’s, engagement story. It’s so fun to relive the moment and all the ones leading up to it <3.

I love telling people about our story because we met on a dating app — Hinge to be exact! I know some people who are shy or secretive about meeting on a dating app, and I’m the total opposite. I know that the dating landscape can be hard AF, and if you’ve been single and swiping for awhile, sometimes it doesn’t always feel like there’s anyone left out there that’s right (or good enough) for you.

For me, I ended up meeting my future hubby on Hinge.

My Top 3 Goal Setting and Planning Essentials

Setting goals, planning, and creating to-do lists are things just about everyone does as a part of life and work - but finding a system that really works for you can be strangely difficult.

Personally I can say with confidence that I’ve been totally guilty of spending way too much time making thorough lists and project folders only to watch those lists just sit there with nothing crossed off or finished six months later.

As much as I feel like I used to romanticize the idea of being a ‘messy’ or ‘scatterbrained’ artist, I’ve definitely felt myself craving much more structure and organization in my job over the past five years or so. I always love reading about other people’s systems for planning and goal-setting, so today I’m sharing my essential tools for organizing everything I have coming up and getting things done day to day!

Outfit To Try: Midi Slip Dresses & Ankle Boots

Don’t you just love it when you find a new staple outfit combination? I’ve been making some style goals as I’ve been purging my closet this past month, and one of them was to break out of my jeans + t-shirt rut.

Don’t get me wrong- I still love a great pair of jeans paired with a comfy tee. But I realized that from time to time I want to wear things with a little more personality, and today I’m sharing some inspiration for my current favorite outfit combo: midi slip dresses + ankle boots.

The great thing about midi dresses and ankle boots is that they work for so many different occasions. A midi slip dress can be dressed up or down, worn on its own in warm weather or topped with a jacket and layered with long sleeve knits when it’s cooler.
