Room Tour: Kate's Studio Home Office
Although I work mostly from home under ‘normal’ circumstances, like a lot of us, the current climate of the times has me spending 100% of my working hours at home. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share another room tour wth you - my studio and home office!
As a multi-faceted creative, having my own space to work on the many different projects that come with my job is totally essential. I haven’t always had my own designated room for work and music recording, so it’s been a game changer in this house to have this space.
To be totally honest, I thought about clearing out some of the clutter in here before sharing this room tour. Ideally, I would love to have a little less stuff under the desk and generally less visual weight. But in the spirit of being real, this is pretty much as good as it’s gonna get!
(I should also note that it’s rarely this clean, haha)
This large black desk is one I’ve had for about 6 years now, and it’s built specifically with recording artists and musicians in mind.
The little drawer right under the desktop houses my keyboard for when I’m recording which is pretty cool, and I keep my vocal microphone set up at all times so I can have the freedom to just lay down an idea when I need to vs. having to assemble the whole thing each time.
One of my favorite parts of this room is the art and photos on the wall. Above the recording desk, I have three black and white photos - one of my grandma, one of Brett and I when we lived in Paris, and one of me and my sister and girl cousins.
I knew when we moved into this house that I wanted to try removable wallpaper somewhere, and the studio felt like a good place to experiment. I can’t say enough great things about Chasing Paper, which is where this design is from!
Installation was pretty smooth - it takes patience and time, but it’s totally worth it in my opinion. I have yet to discover just how “removable” it is since I haven’t tried peeling it off yet, but I’ve read enough decent reviews to think that it shouldn’t be too hard once it’s time to move.
Sorry in advance if you’re offended by the language on my grandma’s t-shirt (if it’s even legible lol), but I think that’s probably one of my favorite photos of all time. Big mood right there.
The sconces on either side of the desk are Jonathan Adler and I absolutely LOVE them. The rest of our house has kind of a classic, boho feel, but having this room gave me a chance to play with some bolder styles.
My vintage typewriter is one of my favorite features too! I don’t use it very often, but it still works great and is kind of a fun retro piece to have when I feel like making something with that old-school feel.
The curtains are from Urban Outfitters. These are the blush color!
The other side of the room is where I work on non-music related stuff, or just where I work when I don’t need to record anything. This room is so much bigger than any home office I’ve ever had, so it’s a pretty legit luxury to be able to have two work zones like this.
The Bob Dylan poster is a Milton Glaser original that I found on Etsy a long time ago and is one of my favorite pieces!
The floor lamp is from Target.
This Ikea bookshelf is a total workhorse, and the bins really help me hide a bunch of unsightly stuff that I desperately need to purge.
It also houses all my travel journals and photo books, which I love making whenever I have time!
The big framed piece is a print by Teil Duncan, whose work I absolutely love. The “bitch please” pennant is from Golden Gems, and the pink “Fight” one is from Secret Holiday Co.
I’ve come to accept that I’m just not ever going to be one of those people with nothing on their desk.
So that’s where I spend most of my day!
While a lot of the exact furniture and rugs pictured here are no longer available, you can shop a couple pieces from my studio here:
In case you missed it, I recently shared a room tour of our master bedroom too.
What room should I share next??
