How To Install DIY Floating Shelves

Like cute photos of your dog, kitchen storage is pretty much one of those things you can never have enough of in my book. Kate here, and today I’m super excited to share these DIY floating shelves we just installed!

Floating kitchen shelves are a design element that have been on my pinterest boards ever since I can remember, and this new house had the perfect spot for a pair of them. I know open shelving in the kitchen is always a hotly debated item, but personally I think any opportunity to display another plant or some decanted dry goods is one we should all jump at.

DIY Cane Closet Doors: Bi-Fold Door Makeover

For as long as I’ve been obsessed with interiors, I’ve always swooned over all things cane - cane doors, caned furniture, the list goes on.

Between the color and the texture it lends to a space and its subtle boho, natural vibe, I’ve always wanted to DIY a project with cane mesh. This summer, our pantry door turned out to be the perfect candidate for a bi-fold louvered door makeover!

Easy DIY Wallpaper Art or Headboard

There’s nothing I love more than an easy DIY project that packs a big punch, and this wallpaper art in my music studio is a perfect example!

I installed this wallpaper art as a feature wall behind my music desk to ground it in the space, but you could also use this exact technique to make a really easy DIY wallpaper headboard (which I kind of want to do in another room now!) This wallpaper feature wall was one of the quickest and easiest DIY projects I’ve done in this house, but it makes a huge impact and I really love how it turned out.

Kate's Skincare Routine and Beauty Staples

With what seems like 8 billion skincare products to choose from on the shelves these days, it can be overwhelming to say the least trying to find what works for your skin and lifestyle. Kate here, and after several requests for this post I thought it would be fun to share my personal skincare routine today!

You might think that with all this time at home lately I’d have hours upon hours to devote to some sort of 16 step elaborate skincare routine, but the truth is that’s never worked for me. I’ve definitely had my share of 12-step K Beauty skincare phases over the years, and while it was fun to try something so elaborate, it really just wasn’t realistic for me.

So I decided to strip it back to just the essentials and see how my skin fared with a more minimalist approach. Crazy enough, I think my skin is better than it’s ever been with this simple and straightforward routine!

How I Converted Old Home Movies to Digital (Music Video Preview!)

Without saying your age, how big was the first video camera you can remember? I know what my answer is, and it was definitely not the size of an iPhone…

Kate here, and today I’m really excited to share how I converted my old home movies on DVD to digital files, plus give you an exclusive preview of my new music video for my song, “This Is Home!” It was a really awesome opportunity to do something that’s been on my to-do list forever - convert my old home movies to digital.

Kate's Backyard Patio Progress and Plans

Now that we can all exhale a deep sigh of relief that we’ve officially made it to 2021, I’m getting all the January organizing and house project jitters. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share a little progress on our backyard and patio!

This stucco outdoor fireplace was hands down one of my favorite things about this place from the jump, and I’ve been so excited to dream up what we want to do with this space. I’m feeling extra grateful this winter to live in a place like LA that has that indoor/outdoor lifestyle thing going!

My New Year's Resolution and Goal for 2021

I’m not quite sure how to even begin a post about New Year’s resolutions while we’re still in 2020, because let’s face it- no matter what the resolutions or goals we made for this year looked like it’s highly likely that they didn’t turn out the way we thought they would.

Kate here, and today I’m (cautiously) sharing my main resolution and goal for 2021. Even though 2020 has been the bad boyfriend that will now make me forever cynical about relationships going forward, I’m still choosing to believe in love (not sure what garbage teen movie metaphor I’m going for here but somehow it makes sense to me?)

Our Holiday Home Decor Tour

Decorating for the holidays is one of my favorite traditions of the entire year, and this year it felt extra important for us to make our home as cozy and festive as possible.

Kate here, and today I’m sharing a quick tour of some of our holiday decor! Not sure about you guys, but I totally love seeing how other people decorate their homes decorated for the holiday season. Courtney’s also stopping by at the end of the post to share a few of her favorite festive additions to their NYC apartment this year.

What Does "Home" Really Mean? (Plus Preview Kate's New Single!)

Now that we’re officially past ‘spooky season’ (and yes, I’m including the election in that bucket because I think no matter how you voted we can all agree this weeklong sh*t was a tad scary), it seems like we’re headed full force into holiday mode. And the main thing that comes to mind when I think holiday mode, especially during this circus of a year, is the idea of ‘home.’

Kate here, and today I wanna talk about what the idea of ‘home’ really means to us. I’m also sharing an exclusive preview of my new single that drops this Friday 11/13, “This Is Home.” I’m really proud of this song and feel like it makes a lot of sense given the circumstances we’re all in right now.

Kate's New Studio: Inspiration and Plans

The most fun part of the moving process for me is always designing all the rooms and making decor choices, and since we moved into our new place I’ve been super excited to figure out what I want to do with my new studio and home office! Kate here, and today I’m sharing all my inspiration and plans for this new space.

If you follow my personal iG you may have seen my stories last week all about picking the right wall color. I think I ended up bringing home a total of 14 paint samples (!), but I finally found the right one. Besides figuring out the wall color, I’ve been working on a lot of other ideas for the space- including a really fun built-in bookcase hack with IKEA Billy bookshelves! I can’t wait to share that DIY on here when it’s all done.

Checking in on My New Year's Resolution Mid-Year

Is it just me or does checking in on our New Year’s Resolutions feel particularly weird this year? It’s no question that 2020 has been anything but ordinary (to put it lightly), and after stumbling on some photos from my 2020 New Year’s trip this week I realized just how bizarre it is to think back on all the things I resolved to do this year that clearly didn’t quite pan out the way I thought they would.

Back in January I shared a post all about my number one resolution for 2020, which was simple - to Just Start Going. Or so I thought it was simple. Now, having spent the past five months in some semblance of quarantine, the thought of “just starting” all of the things I thought I would be starting this year feels kind of ridiculous. So today I wanted to share a post about how I’m reflecting on where I’m at with that resolution more than halfway through the year and how I hope to adapt it to these crazy circumstances going forward.

Kate's New Place: Before Photos

Like so many people during this crazy time, I have found myself constantly reevaluating nearly every aspect of my life recently. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share the news that I’m moving into a new place this month! As you can see from the pics in this post, we are currently living in a sea of cardboard boxes.

Today I’m sharing a few initial before photos of our new home, but soon I’ll be writing a much more in-depth post about all my best moving tips (plus the many mistakes we made!) so stay tuned for more coming soon.

Clearly you’ll notice that Nola, our rescue pup, is already making herself at home here. To be totally honest she’s pretty confused about the whole process given that we’ve only had her for about three months, but it’s been fun to introduce her to her new neighborhood and let her explore a little!

Decor Dos and Don'ts From My Past 5 Apartments

While purging a bunch of stuff from my home office last week, I came across a bunch of old hard drives with all my photos from the past decade. After diving in and wasting an entire afternoon down memory lane, I thought it might be fun to compile all the photos from all my apartments over the past 10 years to see how my style has evolved.

Once I had a chance to look through all of the ways I’ve decorated my home over the years I wanted to share a post about all the design and decor dos and don’ts that these places have taught me! I’ve definitely learned a lot along the way, but going through all of these photos makes me excited to see how my style will continue to develop and change in the future.

Room Tour: Kate's Studio Home Office

Although I work mostly from home under ‘normal’ circumstances, like a lot of us, the current climate of the times has me spending 100% of my working hours at home. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share another room tour wth you - my studio and home office!

As a multi-faceted creative, having my own space to work on the many different projects that come with my job is totally essential. I haven’t always had my own designated room for work and music recording, so it’s been a game changer in this house to have this space.

Confessions of a Control Freak (Plus Preview Kate's New Song!)

At the time of writing this blog, the world is in the midst of the now infamous Corona pandemic - and there’s really not enough space on the internet to list all of the adjectives we could use to describe this crazy season. It’s scary. It’s weird. It’s bizarre. It’s confusing. It’s …. anxiety-inducing, to say the least.

Today I’m unpacking and sharing a little bit about why I’m confessing to control freak-dom, and I’m also super excited to share a snippet of my upcoming single, “Anxious” - which is all about the struggle of feeling out of control in life.

Meet Nola: Kate's New Rescue Pup

Despite all of the crazy uncertainty of this season, this week unexpectedly turned out to be one of the best ever. Why? Because my husband Brett and I finally found the rescue pup of our dreams!

Meet Nola - she is a Wheaten Terrier mix and a total sweetheart. We picked her up in San Diego this weekend and we are absolutely in love!

We’ve been excited about getting our first dog together since we met almost 11 years ago, and now finally felt like the right time to start looking.

Room Tour: Kate's Main Bedroom

Since we’re all spending a significant amount of time on the home front lately, I thought I’d start sharing some much requested room tours from my LA home. Kate here, and I’m excited to share our master bedroom with you guys today!

My husband Brett and I have lived in a ton of different apartments and parts of the city over the years (in addition to spending a few years in Nashville and one in Paris), and I have to say that this is the first house we’ve ever lived in that has all the elements of what feels like a ‘grown up’ master bedroom.

It has tons of natural light, enough room for a king bed (which has never even come close to happening before), hardwood floors, and tons of original charm. I absolutely love it!

Kate's Engagement Story

As a lot of you probably know, me and my husband Brett got married years ago- but since we got engaged back before everyone posted every milestone of their lives on social media, I thought it would be fun to share our engagement story with you guys!

Another reason this is a timely post is that I just celebrated my birthday, and we happened to get engaged on my birthday- so it felt like a good time to share this much requested post.

Fast forward to December of 2011, during my birthday week. We were celebrating my birthday down in Cabo San Lucas, and on the morning of my birthday Brett basically told me to pack my bags up at the hotel and that we were going somewhere else for the day. Naturally, this made me somewhat suspicious, but I went with it and jumped into a cab to see where we were headed.
