Kate's New Studio: Inspiration and Plans

The most fun part of the moving process for me is always designing all the rooms and making decor choices, and since we moved into our new place I’ve been super excited to figure out what I want to do with my new studio and home office! Kate here, and today I’m sharing all my inspiration and plans for this new space.

If you follow my personal iG you may have seen my stories last week all about picking the right wall color. I think I ended up bringing home a total of 14 paint samples (!), but I finally found the right one. Besides figuring out the wall color, I’ve been working on a lot of other ideas for the space- including a really fun built-in bookcase hack with IKEA Billy bookshelves! I can’t wait to share that DIY on here when it’s all done.

The sconce in the above photo is by Jonathan Adler, and you may remember them from my old studio and home office tour earlier this year. They’re still some of my favorite pieces and I’m excited to find the right spot for them in this new studio.

Also pictured above are the fabric samples from the loveseat I ordered from Article. It was on major backorder so it hasn’t arrived yet, but judging from the samples I think it’ll be worth the wait!

Here you can see a sneak peek of the built-in IKEA Billy bookcase hack progress. It’s been a VERY big project with a lot of steps that requires some patience, but I’m SO excited about how it’s coming together.

Above is a screen grab from my IG stories last week polling everyone about paint colors. I ended up going with the far left color, which is Hidden Falls by Benjamin Moore. It’s looking so so pretty so far.

Below is a pic of the room right when we moved in for some “before” context in terms of what I have to work with. It’s a great size room, but it was pretty much a blank canvas and I’m hoping between the bookshelves and the wall/couch colors I can add some serious character to the space.

Below are some favorite images from my Pinterest board of inspiration for this room. I really want it to feel cozy with the luxe jewel tones and velvets, but also be airy enough to work well as an art and painting studio.

Right now I think I’m planning to just paint the bookcase wall the dark peacock blue/green and leave the rest white, but time will tell if I end up being tempted to paint the whole thing!

So that’s my initial inspiration for this new office and studio space! It’s so much fun to gather up all these images and dream of what kind of vibe I want to create.

I’ll keep posting updates on our IG and on my personal account too as it’s been amazing having all of you weigh in and give suggestions!

What kinds of decor and design projects are you working on for fall??
