Our Holiday Home Decor Tour

Decorating for the holidays is one of my favorite traditions of the entire year, and this year it felt extra important for us to make our home as cozy and festive as possible.

Kate here, and today I’m sharing a quick tour of some of our holiday decor! Not sure about you guys, but I totally love seeing how other people decorate their homes decorated for the holiday season. Courtney’s also stopping by at the end of the post to share a few of her favorite festive additions to their NYC apartment this year.

Since we just moved into this place in August, we’re still getting settled in many ways and weren’t able to do everything I would have wanted to decorate for the season.

For instance, our house itself doesn’t have a fireplace, but our backyard has the cutest fireplace that I’m SO excited to deck out with stockings and holiday decor next year. For now though, it’s been really nice to have a few corners of the house that feel extra festive!

I always love taking before and after pictures of our tree every year, and this one is probably my favorite tree yet. It feels like the first place we’ve lived in where there’s actually a somewhat natural spot for the Christmas tree vs. us having to squeeze and smush it into some corner a la National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation…

Our tree skirt was hand-quilted by my Grandma and it’s one of my favorite parts of our holiday decor every year!

In this pic you can kind of see how it’s set up in our living room. It’s really fun living in such an open plan space now because no matter where you are in the house you kind of get to experience the holiday vibes!

if you’re wondering wtf we were watching on the TV when I took this pic it’s a live birdfeeder camera…lol it sounds nerdy and/or boring but is a weirdly calming backdrop while we’re having coffee in the morning

In lieu of a fireplace, we decided to hang our stockings on the sides of the bookcase we use for our main room TV. We discovered in our last house that this bookcase we’ve had forever is a weirdly perfect fit for our TV, and all we had to do was remove the middle shelf.

This bookcase is a fun piece to have in the living room because I think I’m going to have fun changing out the decor on the other shelves depending on the season. Right now I’m still kind of fussing with the setup, but overall I love having the bottlebrush trees and the garland to turn up the festive feels.

The only other holiday touches we got around to adding were little things like this jingle bell garland here and there in the house. I love finding holiday decor like this that’s sort of subtle and neutral!

So that’s our holiday decor tour for this year! Honestly I feel pretty good about what we were able to accomplish considering so much of our seasonal stuff was still in boxes from the move.

Now for a couple of Courtney’s favorite holiday decor additions!

Hey everyone, Courtney here!

Given the limited amount of space we have in our Manhattan apartment, we tried to (and had to) keep it pretty simple this year. In addition to our little 4-foot tree, we have our custom stockings from this Etsy shop, a mini tree under the TV, and the Dr. Fauci bobble head my fiancé won for winning a compliance competition at work, haha (it’s extra cool because we lived right near Nats park in DC and this is Dr. Fauci throwing out the first pitch at the Nats game this year!).

My fiancé also lined our windows with colored lights giving our apartment a major Stranger Things vibe, and I don’t hate it. Even though this holiday season will look a lot different for us, I love having our cozy little Christmas reprieve - it’s amazing what some twinkle lights can do for your mood!

Did you go all out decorating for the holidays this year? Or keeping it more low key??
