On one hand, it seems totally insane that it’s already time to ring in a brand new year. On the other, it feels like it’s taken about 5 times longer to get to this point than it normally does, because…2020.

My New Year's Resolution and Goal for 2021

I’m not quite sure how to even begin a post about New Year’s resolutions while we’re still in 2020, because let’s face it- no matter what the resolutions or goals we made for this year looked like it’s highly likely that they didn’t turn out the way we thought they would.

Kate here, and today I’m (cautiously) sharing my main resolution and goal for 2021. Even though 2020 has been the bad boyfriend that will now make me forever cynical about relationships going forward, I’m still choosing to believe in love (not sure what garbage teen movie metaphor I’m going for here but somehow it makes sense to me?)

DIY Macrame Coaster Tutorial Video

If you’re anything like me, the craziness of 2020 has motivated me to pick up a plethora of new hobbies. Once the pandemic started, I realized that when I got bored, I would just pick up my phone and doom scroll. I quickly learned that it was not good for my mental health, so I decided to switch up my routine and began exploring different crafts.

Courtney here — and today I’m showing you how to make macrame coasters! This DIY macrame tutorial video. Macrame coasters create the perfect, boho-inspired gift for birthdays, holidays, and even for yourself (we have like ten in our living room!). There's No Place Like Home Alone For Winter Wardrobe Inspiration

if you’ve been reading the blog awhile or follow us/me on any form of social media you know that we are entirely obsessed with all things Home Alone, holiday season or not. from the outfits, to the burglars’ excitement about stealing VCRs, to the #tbt labels on all the stuff at the grocery store the movie is basically scene after scene of amazing 90s nostalgia.

Kate here, and while i was watching Home Alone for the first of what will be many times this season over Tgiv last week I realized that the outfits in the movie offer some serious winter wardrobe inspiration. I’m not sure about you, but between this year’s Victorian puffy sleeve takeover and the onslaught of late 80’s and early 90’s normcore popping up everywhere, it’s safe to say the McCallisters had serious style.

How To Make 4 Cute Cold Weather Outfits with One Top

remember putting together cute outfits?? I have to admit that I probably took a good six months off of anything that could be considered a ‘cute outfit’ this year, but with the weather changing I’m starting to get excited about putting together winter outfits!

Kate here, and today I’m sharing four cute cold weather outfit ideas that you can put together using the same basic top. These outfits all work with the same pair of shoes too, because after spending my life living out of little carry-on suitcases I’ve become a superfan of versatile closet staples.

What Does "Home" Really Mean? (Plus Preview Kate's New Single!)

Now that we’re officially past ‘spooky season’ (and yes, I’m including the election in that bucket because I think no matter how you voted we can all agree this weeklong sh*t was a tad scary), it seems like we’re headed full force into holiday mode. And the main thing that comes to mind when I think holiday mode, especially during this circus of a year, is the idea of ‘home.’

Kate here, and today I wanna talk about what the idea of ‘home’ really means to us. I’m also sharing an exclusive preview of my new single that drops this Friday 11/13, “This Is Home.” I’m really proud of this song and feel like it makes a lot of sense given the circumstances we’re all in right now.

How To Choose What Goes on a Gallery Wall

could probably write a novel-length love letter to gallery walls because let’s face it - they are kind of the blue jeans of home decor.

Kate here, and today I’m sharing my process of putting together a gallery wall that just works. You might remember from my post about decor dos and donts from all my old apartments that I’ve been a big fan of the gallery wall since day one, but admittedly I think I’ve gotten a lot better over the years at figuring out the formula that makes a great one.

Here are the main 4 rules I stick to:

6 Tips To Make Moving Simple and Easy

Moving is one of those things that I equally love and hate. On one hand there’s the joy of dreaming up all the new memories you’re going to make in your new place and imagining how you want each room to look, and on the other lies the all too familiar dread of inevitable stress, endless boxes of mystery items, and uprooting your life for weeks.

Kate here, and as most of you know my husband and I recently moved to a new place for the 5th time in 5 years. While I definitely don’t consider myself an extreme expert on the subject, I do think I’ve done this enough times to have some hopefully helpful advice to share.

4 Things Helping Me During Unemployment

If you, like me, are one of the millions of Americans who found themselves unemployed this year, I feel you — and I am sorry that you’re going through this on top of all the other crap this year has brought.

Courtney here — and today I’m writing about what has helped me during unemployment. At first, I wasn’t going to write anything about the subject, because honestly, I felt embarrassed. But then I thought to myself — if I’m someone who preaches the importance of vulnerability, it’s only right that I would try to connect with others who might be going through something similar by sharing my truth. The last thing we need right now is everyone pretending everything is perfect — because we all know it’s far from it.

Roundup: Balloon Sleeve Sweaters for Fall

There’s something about the start of October that just sets the fall season in motion, isn’t there? After spending this past week in the paradise on Earth that is Jackson, Wyoming, I’m finding myself craving cozy fall wardrobe inspiration like crazy.

One of my favorite trends that’s started popping up everywhere this past year is balloon sleeves - or bubble sleeves, poofy sleeves, puffy sleeves - whatever you wanna call them. I’m particularly a fan of the balloon sleeve because the poofiest part of the sleeve is on the bottom vs. the shoulders.

Though I love a poofy shoulder on other people, I think I kind of struggle to pull it off, so a balloon sleeve is the just-right sweet spot that still allows me to fully participate in poofy sleeve-dom.

Vegan Banana Blondie Recipe

It’s officially fall! Not sure how we got here, but PSLs are back on the menu, football has returned, and my sweaters have come out of hiding.

Courtney here — and today I’m making a sweet, comforting vegan treat — banana blondies. While these don’t necessarily scream fall, my dreams of making pumpkin chai cookies were crushed when I found out my Whole Foods hasn’t stocked pumpkin yet. I guess the universe is telling me to savor summer a little longer.

Thankfully, I had three very ripe bananas left over from last week’s grocery haul. I tried to make a slight departure from my normal bread and muffin recipes and make some blondies — essentially brownies sans the cocoa powder.

How To Deal When You're Trying to Do Literally Everything

Is it just me or does this pandemic season somehow make me feel even less organized and level-headed than I was back when going places and seeing people was a thing? Kate here, and today I’m talking about that feeling of total overwhelm that we all know too well - the one that inevitably finds us every time we load our plate with too much stuff.

It’s really odd to me that I’m experiencing this feeling so much right now, during a time when I’m technically far less “busy” than I would be during a normal year. Last year at this time I had a gig on the west coast of the US and took a red eye flight to New York as soon as I got offstage, and then proceeded to get on a transatlantic ship to England the following morning. It sounds a lot more stressful than my current day-to-day when I write it out like that, but somehow here we are.

Kate's New Studio: Inspiration and Plans

The most fun part of the moving process for me is always designing all the rooms and making decor choices, and since we moved into our new place I’ve been super excited to figure out what I want to do with my new studio and home office! Kate here, and today I’m sharing all my inspiration and plans for this new space.

If you follow my personal iG you may have seen my stories last week all about picking the right wall color. I think I ended up bringing home a total of 14 paint samples (!), but I finally found the right one. Besides figuring out the wall color, I’ve been working on a lot of other ideas for the space- including a really fun built-in bookcase hack with IKEA Billy bookshelves! I can’t wait to share that DIY on here when it’s all done.

Chocolate Cake Recipe For Two

It’s no secret that birthday celebrations look a little different this year.

For the past two years, we’ve celebrated my fiancé’s birthday at our favorite DC bar with a giant group of friends. But given the whole pandemic situation and the fact that we moved to Manhattan, that wasn’t really an option this year.

This one-bowl, cocoa-filled, buttercream-topped indulgence is the perfect birthday dessert. Made with two six-inch cake rounds, it’s just the right size for two people.

DIY Waterfall Butcher Block Washer & Dryer Counter

Like many of us, one of the major things that’s bringing me a lot of joy right now is working on home projects. Kate here, and today I’m really excited to share this DIY laundry room project we just completed!

I’ve always swooned over waterfall butcher block countertops on Pinterest, and when we moved into a place without a washer and dryer I knew I wanted to somehow find a way to create a cool butcher block counter to house the machines.

This was one of the first big projects we wanted to tackle in our new place, and I’m so thrilled with how it turned out!

This Churro French Toast Kit is Our New Obsession

Despite the fact that i’ve definitely been cooking and baking far more than I ever have in my life during quarantine, I haven’t yet been brave enough to jump on the bread baking train. Until now, that is. Kate here, and today I’m excited to share my new breakfast obsession - Churro French Toast!

More specifically, I’m talking about this Homemade Churro French Toast Kit that my good friend Jeremy Fall created in collaboration with Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. Their site offers an awesome selection of DIY baking kits and I’m super excited to try another one after successfully making this insanely delicious French Toast last weekend.

5 Small Changes I've Made Since the Beginning of Quarantine That Have Eased My Anxiety

I remember when we first entered quarantine in March, and I thought to myself, just a couple weeks — maybe a month — of this and we will be done and back to normal. Wishful thinking, huh?

Checking in on My New Year's Resolution Mid-Year

Is it just me or does checking in on our New Year’s Resolutions feel particularly weird this year? It’s no question that 2020 has been anything but ordinary (to put it lightly), and after stumbling on some photos from my 2020 New Year’s trip this week I realized just how bizarre it is to think back on all the things I resolved to do this year that clearly didn’t quite pan out the way I thought they would.

Back in January I shared a post all about my number one resolution for 2020, which was simple - to Just Start Going. Or so I thought it was simple. Now, having spent the past five months in some semblance of quarantine, the thought of “just starting” all of the things I thought I would be starting this year feels kind of ridiculous. So today I wanted to share a post about how I’m reflecting on where I’m at with that resolution more than halfway through the year and how I hope to adapt it to these crazy circumstances going forward.
