The Only Summer Accessory You Need: 90s Hair Clips

does anyone else remember how satisfying it was in the middle of a boring 6th grade science class to have one of those silver hair clips to play with? the 90s were marked by a myriad of amazing moments in fashion, and hair barrettes in every shape an size are undoubtedly one of them.

fast forward about 20 years give or take, and suddenly the resurgence of these 90s hair clips seem to be taking our summer hair game to new heights. i’ve been seeing this trend everywhere this spring and summer, and as always i am one hundred percent here for anything that calls back the 90s nostalgia.

Summer Shoe Forecast: Square Toe Sandals

now that we’re well into exposed toes season, it’s time to talk about summer shoe obsessions. i’ve always been an ankle boots for every season kinda girl, but it’s just not fair to your feet to keep that pedicure under wraps in the summertime. and this summer it seems like square toe sandals are all of a sudden everywhere.

i wasn’t sure how to feel about this style at first, and I was wondering where this trend came from the other day when it all fell into place. if you must know i’m currently in the middle of season 3 of Sex & the City (yes i’m rewatching the entire series after my husband falls asleep and no i’m not sorry) and it hit me that this is a total Carrie look. the square toe sandal is a Carrie Bradshaw classic and suddenly it seems like the perfect summer shoe.

May Your Waves Be Merry & Bright: Holiday Hair Ideas

clearly we're in full on holiday mode over here at WTD, and that means our calendar is quickly filling up with festive parties and sparkly soirées. i'm a huge fan of holiday party season because it's a great excuse to buy a new dress with sequins on it, wear a red lip, and rock a cool hairstyle that might feel too aggressive at a boring different time of year party. so we rounded up four of our fave ways to get creative with your waves this month.

if you’ve been reading the blog awhile or follow us/me on any form of social media you know that we are entirely obsessed with all things Home Alone, holiday season or not. from the outfits, to the burglars’ excitement about stealing VCRs, to the #tbt labels on all the stuff at the grocery store the movie is basically scene after scene of amazing 90s nostalgia.

while i was watching Home Alone for the first of what will be many times this season over Tgiv last week, i realized that the outfits in the movie offer some serious winter wardrobe inspiration. i’m not sure about you, but between this year’s dad sneakers takeover and the onslaught of late 80’s and early 90’s normcore popping up everywhere, it’s safe to say the McCallisters had serious style.

My Favorite No-Fail Outfit Planning Hack

today i’m sharing something of a bolt-on to my closet makeover series. i started using this outfit planning hack about a year ago, when i realized my biggest hangup in choosing an outfit is that i’m usually confused about what goes with what in my closet when i’m looking at it as a whole. I tend to be the type of person who likes pattern and print, so a lot of my favorite items in my closet could be classified as “statement pieces.” statement pieces are great and all, but they don’t go with other statement pieces. so it can get confusing when you want to put together an outfit that’s well balanced in a pinch.

Roundup: Cropped Jeans are Fresh for Fall

when i moved to France this year, i had to pack pretty lightly considering the tiny size of our ‘pied-a-terre.’ as you might imagine based on my closet makeover posts, minimalism isn’t exactly something i’ve successfully embraced yet, so this was a challenge. on the denim front, this meant only 4 pairs of jeans made the cut (sidenote: my husband brought ONE pair of jeans total for this entire year in France). this past month, i kept seeing cropped jeans and kick flare jeans everywhere in Paris, and decided i could make room for pair #5.

Sequins & Over-the-Knee Boots Season

with cooler temps around the corner, we’re soaking up every last bit of lingering sunshine and warm, early fall weather. today we’re sharing some outfit inspo for those fall days and date nights that don’t quite require major layers just yet. this is a bit of a maximalist take on the mini dress + over-the-knee boots combo, a frequent favorite for us.

Bold Shoulder: Silver and Gray Edition

although i tend to consider myself a pretty good sport when it comes to taking fashion risks, there is one risk in particular i've never been a big fan of- poofy shoulders. the main reason i've steered mostly clear of this look up until now is that it typically looks a little ridiculous on my frame, and it just felt impractical. but enter this poofy shoulder metallic bodysuit? i just might call myself converted.

Closet Makeover Diaries: Mood Board

given that i knew i’d be moving overseas and putting everything in storage this year, i decided one of my major goals would be a serious closet overhaul. admittedly, i've tried just about everything in the closet overhaul department - shoe racks of all shapes and sizes, folding my jeans, hanging my jeans, having a special trunk at the base of my bed just for jeans (not a thing that works FYI) - and i was starting to get a little discouraged. maybe i just wasn't the type of person who could successful tame her closet?? maybe i'm forever doomed to the dreaded 'i have nothing to wear' territory? i figured having your closet shit together was for people who fold their underwear and brush their teeth for the recommend full three minutes.

Festival Ready: Leather, Studs and Stars

it may only be the beginning of March, but that means festival season is right around the corner. shops are all starting to stock up on suede, fringe, and boho prints and we're loving every minute of it. festival fashion is kind of my vibe year round, so i usually end up finding some of my favorite wardrobe staples during this time of year. the look i'm sharing today is my favorite way to do festival- comfy and easy, yet definitely above and beyond my everyday vibe. this studded vest (plus some of my fave enamel pins from my collection) was the perfect topper for an easy printed dress, and finishing it off with embellished booties and a gold leather headband pulled everything together.

Crushing On: Collar Necklaces

happy weekend everyone! today we're sharing 13 of our favorite collar necklace picks, because could there really be anything more elegant and effortless to top off your outfit? i think not. i'm a huge fan of this look for a lot of reasons, of one of them is that IT DOESN'T GET TANGLED. i've been on the road a lot these past few months, and it's really hard to bring jewelry because so many of the necklaces get all tangled up in each other no matter how carefully you pack them. totally infuriating. these collar options are also awesome because they can be super minimalist and subtle or they can make a huge statement. and they look really beautiful with a bare shoulder, hair up look OR with a really cool top. the possibilities are endless.

Closet Staple: Embellished Jackets

one of my favorite things about fashion is, no matter what we're individually drawn to, our style and perception of style inevitably evolves and changes as time goes on. if you've known me longer than a few years, you probably know i've had many phases of maximalism during my style evolution, and i think (well i hope) i've finally tamed it to a respectable degree. one thing that has helped me rein in the maximalism and edit down my wardrobe is focusing on closet staples and figuring out what they are for me.

Bundle Up: Fight the Frost in Furry Coats

given that it looks like the polar vortex is back to hang out this weekend (and overstay its welcome as usual) we figured you might need an excuse to overnight order yourself some new furry armor to combat the single digit temps. i love the chic look of these furry coats (the faux kind, of course) and that they can work in just about any color or length. they can also be super casual (like #11 in her sneakers) or a perfect way to top off a super glitzy party dress. all round, this piece is basically going to be your bff this winter. here are some of our fave ways to wear it:

Retro Road Trip: Fringe & Florals

i have a love hate relationship with incessant travel this time of year. on one hand, i absolutely love the hustle and bustle of going from place to place and seeking adventure in all of it, and on the other hand i just wanna sit on my couch and watch holiday movies in my pajamas for the entire month of december. but this december, i will be on the road the. entire. time. which is awesome! this is the kind of december travel that i love. i'm headed on tour and excited to hit cities like NYC, Nashville and DC, and i'm also super excited to see all of these beautiful cities decked out for the season. in the spirit of road trips and kicking off my tour, i thought i'd share this rock/boho shoot from Malibu, CA
