well guys it's officially October, and that can only mean one thing: everyone's Pinterest feed overfloweth with ridiculously elaborate pumpkin decorating ideas. the last time i checked, decorating pumpkins involved laying down some newspaper, carving out a face that doesn't end up looking much like a face because wielding that knife thing is actually really hard, shoving a candle in it and calling it a day. turns out shit has gotten REAL since my pumpkin carving days- people are going all out.
Read Moreabsolutely loving seeing Jordan Sondler's work everywhere right now! her style is so playful, and i'm completely obsessed with her maps. she's done some really badass collabs with everyone from urban outfitters (she designed super cute candles for them) to Minted (find some of her awesome prints here), and we're big fans of her bold, super fun vibe:
Read Moreat WTD, we are all about finding new favorite artists and telling everyone how awesome they are. today i'm sharing three of my favorite ceramic artists- Rae Dunn, MQuan, and Honeycomb studio- who all have their own beautiful, minimalistic aesthetic that I'm totally in love with.
Read Morei'm not sure how many skillshare classes related to hand lettering i've signed up for in the past year, but it's a lot. as a former art student and general doodling enthusiast, i absolutely love that hand drawn letters are having such a massive moment in design. and i think they're here to stay for good, because no matter how many handletter-y fonts come along (and we do have our faves) there's just nothing cooler than a totally original, custom made typeface.
Read Morenothing amps me up for a new project like a beautifully executed mood board above my work space. i could honestly scroll through #moodboardporn for DAYS. though i'm obviously a huge fan of wasting hours of my life pinning on Pinterest in bed, glass of wine in hand, i'm also a very firm believer in cutting shit out of magazines and making real, live pin boards. i try to switch my real live mood board up a couple times a year whenever i feel like i need a refresh, and i gotta tell you, it's kind of like changing the background pic on your phone or your laptop- simple, pretty quick, yet LIFE CHANGING. all of a sudden i start seeing things from another angle and i'm off to the races with creative vibes and ideas.
Read Morewell you guys it's officially MAY and that's super exciting. the sun's out, the days are longer, and Justin Timberlake himself even tweeted about it. though i'm personally a huge fan of these sunny days, the star of today's post (awful celestial pun intended) is the MOON. the moon has been having a moment for a really long time, but it's still very much in the spotlight and all over home decor. the geometric lunar shapes are super versatile and look great in a variety of materials, and i don't think they're going away anytime soon. i'm looking for a fun spring DIY project and currently loving these six relatively easy DIY phases of the moon ideas.
Read Morepeacock blue - the color i'm currently obsessing over - seems to already be a hot hue for 2017. lately i feel like this incredibly gorgeous shade of blue/green is EVERYWHERE and i'm so into it. peacock blue is such a perfect mix of cool blues and cozy greens and it works for everything from kitchen cabinets to date night eye makeup to living room walls. this color can be rich and make a giant statement or it can be surprisingly fresh and calming. not to mention, its namesake bird is pretty incredible. apparently there are tons of them in southern california, because literally everyone but me has seen one running around somewhere, but i have yet to stumble across any LA native peacocks. here's hoping.
Read Moreif you guys haven't already noticed, i am a relatively lazy DIYer. don't get me wrong, i totally love a good DIY project, but i tend to stick to the two extreme ends of the spectrum. which is to say- i'm totally down to spend an entire weekend at home depot buying tons of supplies to make a sick new industrial coffee table from scratch, or i'm diving into something that's gonna take me about a glass of wine to complete. i don't do too well in that middle territory where a project involves a bunch of crazy steps just to create one pot holder, you know? so i figured with valentine's day already hovering in the near future (2017 you can sloooooow down now thanks) i'd share some of my fave easy ideas for fun DIY gifts.
Read Moreour first artist spotlight of 2017 is on Brooklyn-based leah reena goren, an awesome illustrator i discovered while wandering through some of New Orleans' coolest boutiques last week. chances are you've already seen her work all over the map (she counts anthropologie and ban.do as clients among many others) and it's not hard to see why. i love her unique perspective, especially the way she portrays portraits and people. also i'm completely in love with the way she mixes different hues of pinks and reds. i picked up one of her prints at Saint Claude Social Club in NOLA last week and I can't wait to add to it my studio gallery wall. check out some of our fave sketches and projects from her archives:
Read MoreOMG it's 2017 everyone!!! hope you all had a fabulous weekend ringing in the new year. i had a blast celebrating with friends in Cabo (same way i celebrated last year) and there were plenty of outrageous beach fireworks and margaritas to go around. i can't believe how 2016 seemed to fly but also seemed to go on forever in some ways. it was definitely somewhat of a weird year filled with lots of ups and downs, but overall i'm grateful for so many of 2016's great stories, new friends, and cool adventures. that being said, i am SO READY for 2017. extremely excited to start fresh. one of my favorite things about another trip around the sun is finding out pantone's new color of year pick, so i thought i'd compile some inspo for this year's hue- GREENERY.
Read Morehappy friday everyone! i'm currently stuck in an airport lounge because of insane holiday travel delays! tis the season i guess. also i slept about 45 minutes last night so forgive me if this post makes no sense whatsoever. i can't believe this year is already over, and in the spirit of gearing up for an awesome 2017 i thought i'd share some of my top planner picks for the upcoming year. even though there are all those fancy calendar apps out there, i still think it's awesome to have a physical planner on hand somewhere. i'm much more efficient at #gettingshitdone when i actually write stuff down, and it makes planning vacays and events easier to have the whole year laid out in front of me in a book. so here are some of my fave picks for 2017.
Read Morewe are self-described font snobs at WTD, meaning we're really really nerdy about good fonts and lifelong enemies of comic sans (shudder). ever since i was a little kid, i LOVED FONTS. i remember getting so excited every time we'd upgrade our computer software because that meant there would be a few new fonts included in whatever ancient word processing program came with it. this was the 90's- so the options were pretty slim- but for me, new font releases were on par with new NSYNC CD releases, and that is a pretty incredible statement.
Read Moremy favorite artists are usually the ones whose style is so distinct that their work is totally unmistakably theirs the second you see it. Katie Rodgers of Paper Fashion is definitely one of those artists. we're totally in love with her airy, wispy designs and the way she captures form and movement. also, we're big fans of anything somewhat related to poofy dresses, ballerina vibes, and tutus. check out some of our faves:
Read Morea few months ago, my husband and I took a road trip up the Cali coast. we stopped off at hearst castle, which is this huge ass castle that a guy named hearst built for fun because he was rich and loved the views from the top of the hill (probably more to the story than that but that's pretty much all i remember from the tour). i guess i was too busy obsessing over the unbelievable floors
