Retro Road Trip: Fringe & Florals

i have a love hate relationship with incessant travel this time of year. on one hand, i absolutely love the hustle and bustle of going from place to place and seeking adventure in all of it, and on the other hand i just wanna sit on my couch and watch holiday movies in my pajamas for the entire month of december. but this december, i will be on the road the. entire. time. which is awesome! this is the kind of december travel that i love. i'm headed on tour and excited to hit cities like NYC, Nashville and DC, and i'm also super excited to see all of these beautiful cities decked out for the season. in the spirit of road trips and kicking off my tour, i thought i'd share this rock/boho shoot from Malibu, CA

Style Files: Velvet Vibes Everywhere

when i was a kid, our fifth grade class held a big fair where everyone dressed up like it was medieval times, and my mom made me a dress out of the world's raddest lilac purple velvet fabric. she even made me a matching headdress thingy, and aside from my wedding dress it may have been the coolest outfit i've ever worn in my life. which is why i'm incredibly thrilled that velvet is having a major moment right now- it's all over jackets, dresses, boots, heels, and accessories and i'm definitely not mad about it.

Winning Combo: Suede and Lace

suede and lace - these are a few of my favorite things.  when i first found this adorable lace crop top from Topshop, I kind of had no idea what to do with it. but obviously, i bought it anyway, because since when is that a legitimate reason not to get a rad crop top? and then these J.O.A. red fringe shorts came into my life, and everything just made sense.

High Tide: 6 Staple High-Waisted Bikinis For Summer

it's officially sea breeze and sunscreen season, and I'm personally on the lookout for every opportunity to get to myself to the beach and the pool. this summer i've been excited to play around with different swimwear silhouettes now that there are so many interesting options. though some of these new configurations prove to be extremely difficult to figure out how to put on initially (i've put several on backwards), i'm a big fan of trying anything new and seeing just how awkward my tanlines can get. that being said, a good way to dip your toe into trying a new swimwear silhouette is to just go retro- cause the high-waisted bikini bottom is still going strong.

Crushing On: Culottes and Sneakers Combo

i can't believe it's already POST Memorial Day weekend and we're pretty much officially kicking off the summer season. it feels like summer got here so fast this year, although i'm definitely not mad about it. in the spirit of constantly looking for comfy ways to try new looks, today's post is an ode to an adorable combo i keep seeing everywhere: culottes and sneakers. i gotta admit, it took me a minute to warm up to culottes. i found myself wondering- is this trend merely a 2017 take on the regrettable gaucho pants vibe i rocked way too much in 2004? i couldn't figure it out. but after spending 10 days in Paris and seeing this combo literally everywhere, i'm convinced this look is one to copy immediately.

Breezy Midi, Cobblestone City: Spring In San Juan

last month i finally got to check something major off my bucket list: wandering Old Town San Juan in Puerto Rico. it's such a beautiful city and the colorful buildings are 100 times more amazing in person. this outfit post is a favorite because i'm absolutely obsessed with this Cleobella dress- it's a fun midi length, super comfy, and looks awesome by itself or cinched with a cool belt. in this case, i paired it with one of my main wardrobe staples these days- the B Low the Belt Bri Bri in black & silver. they make this belt in like 10 color combos and i'm pretty sure i need to get them all. it's SO versatile. finished off with some super comfy sandals by Dolce Vita x Vanessa Mooney, this outfit was perfect for wandering the gorgeously uneven cobblestone streets of Old San Juan.

Festival Ready: Sunnies, Sequins, and Laced-Up Leather

now that we're officially over a week into spring (!) i'm back with another festival outfit inspo post today. our first festival ready outfit post was my take on a boho sundress look, and this one switches it up with cut-offs, a graphic tee, and some over-the-knee lace-up boots. if you've been to any of my music gigs in the last year or so, you are probably familiar with this vintage sequin vest (from Closet Case Vintage in Nashville, TN) because i am fully OBSESSED with it. it honestly tops off any and every outfit perfectly. i can't imagine my life without it. i love this look for festival season because it's incredibly comfy, and, unlike a sundress, shorts are a good option if the desert gets a little windy. nothing kills my vibe at an outdoor concert like trying to hold down my dress the whole time.

Roundup: Wide Leg Jumpsuits For Summer

it's officially SPRING YOU GUYS!! ok, maybe it's not officially spring JUST yet (another week to go maybe?) but it finally feels like it because the sun is out til 7pm!! makes such a major difference. today i'm rounding up 6 of my favorite wide leg jumpsuit looks for spring break and summer, because this style has been ALL over for awhile now. wide leg pants and one pieces were big this fall, and i'm loving the way designers have reworked this look in fun, flowy prints for the warmer weather around the corner. i feel like this look is so widespread that whenever i've been out shopping lately, the theme of this season is "surprise, i'm actually pants." meaning, i'll pick up what i THINK is a cute maxi dress off the rack and voila- it's actually pants. not mad at it though.

Stitch, Please: Embroidery Is Everywhere

as an avid lover of everything seventies, i'm extremely excited to see that embroidered denim's comeback is still going strong. this trend has been building up over the last year or so, with people personalizing their jeans at Madewell (and now Revolve offers it too) and dressing up their denim in bright threads in bold patterns, and it seems to just keep on growing.  i was never much of a cross stitch gal when i was young (waaaay too impatient) but i absolutely love the look and texture of embroidery on clothes. there's something extra awesome about it on denim and jeans, because it really allows what would otherwise be a basic, blank slate piece to become the feature of your outfit.

Style Files: Bold, Gold and Eyelet

all the rain has FINALLY stopped here in socal (or so it seems) so i thought we'd celebrate with some sunny day photos. i'm really really happy that the off-the-shoulder look seems to be sticking around longer and longer - personally, i hope it never goes away. i fell hard for this poppy hued eyelet top from free people, and kept it casual with some ripped blue jeans and a fun beaded headband. i'm kind of a more is more gal when it comes to jewelry, so we piled on the gold and kind of just kept going.

Boho Coastal

this is one of my favorite looks from the past year- for a lot of reasons. number one, i never knew how much a needed a lavender hat! it's such a pretty color and surprisingly goes with a lot more of my stuff than i thought it would. number two, this is the photoshoot i did for the cover of my new album, "Canyonlands!" we shot at a gorgeous resort called Terranea, and i love that the place has a really beautiful mix of both boho desert and beachy vibes.

What The Pineapple?

this past summer we released a super fun new music video, and we had a blast shooting it in this beautiful hollywood hills backyard. i looked everywhere for a fun, active wardrobe for the shoot, and i never found just the right leggings. so...we made some. they're called 'dreamerbabe leggings', and i made extras for you.

Moto Cozy: Neutrals With A Pop of Color

i've had it guys. i've spent enough of my twenties attempting to convince myself i'm comfy in something that is, in fact, terribly uncomfortable. but, in the spirit of actually wearing what's in my closet and aiming to try a little harder than the yoga pants uniform (glorious though it is), i decided one of my go-to staple looks will be 'moto cozy.' a little rock n roll, a lot comfy AF.
