Well it’s officially closet cleanout season again (is it ever not?) and it’s safe to say that most of us have probably made some adjustments over the past year to our daily wardrobes. Kate here, and while I’m personally still trying to figure out what I want my day to day style to look like during this weird time, I think it still feels right for me to kick off a new year with a closet detox.
Exciting though the thought of a fresh closet detox may be, it can be super overwhelming approaching a project like this amidst the capsule wardrobe converts, the Konmari devotees and everything in between.
Today I’m sharing what are, in my opinion, the only three questions to you need to ask yourself to truly detox your closet.
If spring cleaning is something that’s been on your to-do list, we’re here today to confirm that giving your closet a spring refresh totally counts. Pretty pastels and pale hues are everywhere, so we’re rounding up our favorite picks.
It’s officially spring, the sun is staying out an hour later (and apparently Senate decided to keep it that way forever??) and our closets are dying to lighten up the mood.
Here are some of our favorite pastel and pale-hued pieces we’re eyeing to refresh our wardrobe this spring!
At some point or another, most of us have found ourselves staring at a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear. This was me way more often than I’d like to admit, until I figured out how to pick out my outfit without overthinking.
In the spirit of spring cleaning and closet cleanout season, today I’m sharing the best outfit planning tip I’ve ever come across that’s completely changed the way I get dressed and decide what to wear.
It’s a concept called outfit formulas, and if you’re not already using them prepare to rejoice and make peace with your closet once and for all.
With what seems like 8 billion skincare products to choose from on the shelves these days, it can be overwhelming to say the least trying to find what works for your skin and lifestyle. Kate here, and after several requests for this post I thought it would be fun to share my personal skincare routine today!
You might think that with all this time at home lately I’d have hours upon hours to devote to some sort of 16 step elaborate skincare routine, but the truth is that’s never worked for me. I’ve definitely had my share of 12-step K Beauty skincare phases over the years, and while it was fun to try something so elaborate, it really just wasn’t realistic for me.
So I decided to strip it back to just the essentials and see how my skin fared with a more minimalist approach. Crazy enough, I think my skin is better than it’s ever been with this simple and straightforward routine!
Before the pandemic, “morning routine” wasn’t really in my vocabulary. I would pretty much roll out of bed, shower, and grab a granola bar on my way to work. Although sometimes it would leave me flustered and slightly disheveled, I just knew I was never going to be one of those productive-at-5:30am type people, and I decided that was okay.
Courtney here - and today I’m talking about my morning routine. Once the pandemic hit, I realized I needed some structure to my day to keep me grounded. If I don’t have at least some semblance of a plan going into my day, I will sit in bed on my phone or just stare out the window and overthink. That never really gets my day off to a good start (although I do admit that still sometimes happens), so I usually make a small (flexible) schedule in the notes app on my phone to plan out my day.
if you’ve been reading the blog awhile or follow us/me on any form of social media you know that we are entirely obsessed with all things Home Alone, holiday season or not. from the outfits, to the burglars’ excitement about stealing VCRs, to the #tbt labels on all the stuff at the grocery store the movie is basically scene after scene of amazing 90s nostalgia.
Kate here, and while i was watching Home Alone for the first of what will be many times this season over Tgiv last week I realized that the outfits in the movie offer some serious winter wardrobe inspiration. I’m not sure about you, but between this year’s Victorian puffy sleeve takeover and the onslaught of late 80’s and early 90’s normcore popping up everywhere, it’s safe to say the McCallisters had serious style.
remember putting together cute outfits?? I have to admit that I probably took a good six months off of anything that could be considered a ‘cute outfit’ this year, but with the weather changing I’m starting to get excited about putting together winter outfits!
Kate here, and today I’m sharing four cute cold weather outfit ideas that you can put together using the same basic top. These outfits all work with the same pair of shoes too, because after spending my life living out of little carry-on suitcases I’ve become a superfan of versatile closet staples.
There’s something about the start of October that just sets the fall season in motion, isn’t there? After spending this past week in the paradise on Earth that is Jackson, Wyoming, I’m finding myself craving cozy fall wardrobe inspiration like crazy.
One of my favorite trends that’s started popping up everywhere this past year is balloon sleeves - or bubble sleeves, poofy sleeves, puffy sleeves - whatever you wanna call them. I’m particularly a fan of the balloon sleeve because the poofiest part of the sleeve is on the bottom vs. the shoulders.
Though I love a poofy shoulder on other people, I think I kind of struggle to pull it off, so a balloon sleeve is the just-right sweet spot that still allows me to fully participate in poofy sleeve-dom.
Most of the time on the blog, we try to share as much valuable advice as we can in our content. Today’s post is a little different though. Kate here, and today I’m the one who is humbly seeking advice - about my current work-from-home wardrobe dilemma.
This year has thrown a lot of things out of balance to say the least, and I’ll start this post off by emphasizing that this ‘dilemma’ is pretty much the definition of a first world problem. By no means is this a big deal or some earth-shattering issue whatsoever, but it is something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the past four months that’s started to reframe my thoughts and feelings about one of my favorite subjects - fashion - and so I felt compelled to write about it in case anyone else is feeling utterly confused about what the hell to wear when working from home.
Last week, we took some time to pause sharing our regular content in order to listen, learn, and hold space for the voices that need to be amplified right now.
While we’re encouraged and inspired to see the way many have come together in our country this past week to fight for racial justice, we also know that the fight against systemic racism is by no means a one-week social media event and that there remains an immense amount of work to do.
We are committed to doing the work, to learning what it truly means to be actively anti-racist, and to amplifying the voices of black creators, artists, and dreamers in as many ways as we can.
Don’t you just love it when you find a new staple outfit combination? I’ve been making some style goals as I’ve been purging my closet this past month, and one of them was to break out of my jeans + t-shirt rut.
Don’t get me wrong- I still love a great pair of jeans paired with a comfy tee. But I realized that from time to time I want to wear things with a little more personality, and today I’m sharing some inspiration for my current favorite outfit combo: midi slip dresses + ankle boots.
The great thing about midi dresses and ankle boots is that they work for so many different occasions. A midi slip dress can be dressed up or down, worn on its own in warm weather or topped with a jacket and layered with long sleeve knits when it’s cooler.
Every year I wait in anticipation to see what color Pantone will choose as their color of the year (proud design nerd here) and it’s always fun to find ways to work that color into my life. It felt like this year there was extra pressure to choose a great color for 2020, because after all, this is the debut of a new decade!
As far as I’m concerned, Pantone did not disappoint. Turns out the color of the year for 2020 is Classic Blue, and it seems to be a crowd pleaser. After all, we’re talking about the color of blue jeans, the ocean, and one of three colors on the freaking American flag. Feels like a good choice to kick off the 20s.
I usually do some kind of roundup of favorite ways to rock the Pantone color of the year, and this year I thought I’d focus on independent designers and small labels.
Well it’s officially closet cleanout season again (is it ever not?) and I’m in the midst of the biggest wardrobe overhaul I’ve done in awhile. There’s something about a fresh new year, let alone a fresh decade, that seems to simply demand it.
Exciting though the thought of a fresh closet detox may be, it can be super overwhelming approaching a project like this amidst the capsule wardrobe converts, the Konmari devotees and everything in between. While I definitely love and employ aspects of all of these methods, I also recently wrote about the downside of ‘Tidying Up’ and think that, like anything else, when it comes to closet detoxing it’s something for which you kind of have to make your own rules.
With that said, today I’m sharing what are, in my opinion, the only three questions to you need to ask yourself to truly detox your closet.
if you’ve been reading the blog awhile or follow us/me on any form of social media you know that we are entirely obsessed with all things Home Alone, holiday season or not. from the outfits, to the burglars’ excitement about stealing VCRs, to the #tbt labels on all the stuff at the grocery store the movie is basically scene after scene of amazing 90s nostalgia.
while i was watching Home Alone for the first of what will be many times this season over Tgiv last week, i realized that the outfits in the movie offer some serious winter wardrobe inspiration. i’m not sure about you, but between this year’s dad sneakers takeover and the onslaught of late 80’s and early 90’s normcore popping up everywhere, it’s safe to say the McCallisters had serious style.
